Gilmer freshman Marlen Hensley threw a TD pass midway through the fourth as the top ranked Red Elephants built a 36-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 36-7 victory.
Next up Gilmer travels to North Hall to take on the Trojans who sit atop the subregion. North Hall defeated Chestatee 49-7 this Friday.

Bobcats top Murray, 20-0
In Friday night's scrimmage game the Bobcats took care of Murray to the tune of 20-0.
The Bobcat defense pulled down four interceptions on the night to keep the Indians from ever threatening. J. Teague scored all three touchdowns for GHS, the longest coming on 23 yard option play from QB R. Lowery with 11:32 remaining in the second quarter.
GHS led 6-0 after the first quarter and added two more scores in the second period before the JV squads took the field to play the fourth quarter.

Summer Camp Schedule
Girls youth basketball camp
The girls youth basketball camp will be held June 1 through June 5 for girls in first through eighth grade at the GHS gym. The camp will run each day from 9 a.m. until noon and the cost is $65. Coach Herb Horton will run the camp and any questions can be directed to herb.horton@gilmer schools.com.
Youth baseball camp
The youth baseball camp will be held June 1 through June 4 for ages 6 to 14 at the park and rec fields. The camp will run each day from 8 a.m. until noon and the cost is $50. Campers should bring cleats, baseball pants or shorts and a glove. Catchers will need to bring their own equipment and campers may also bring bats and helmets. Coach Jeff Thurman will run the camp and any questions can be directed to jthurman@gilmer schools.com.
Youth wrestling camp
The youth wrestling camp will be held June 1 through June 3 for individuals in sixth through twelfth grade at the GMS gym. This is a camp designed for seasoned wrestlers with at least on year of experience. The camp will run each day from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and the cost is free for students currently in the GHS and GMS/CCMS wrestling programs. The cost for those from outside the county is $90. Coach Sam Snider will run the camp and any questions can be directed to ssnider@gilmer schools.com.
Youth cheerleading camp
The youth cheerleading camp will be held June 8 through June 11 for ages 4 to 13 at the GHS gym. The camp will run each day from 9 a.m. until noon and the cost is $60. Coach Candi Bramlett will run the camp and any questions can be directed to cbramlett@gilmerschools.com.
Youth soccer camp
The youth soccer camp will be held June 16 through June 19 for ages 6 to 13 at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. The camp will run each day from 8 a.m. until noon and the cost is $25. Campers should wear comfortable clothes, soccer or tennis shoes, shin guards and sun screen. Coach John Jugenheimer will run the camp and any questions can be directed to jjugen heimer@gilmerschools.com.

Fall recreation registration
Registration for football, cheerleading and fall soccer is now underway at the Gilmer Recreation and Parks Department. Football registration is $100, cheerleading and soccer are $40 per player. Registration continued through June 26.
Benefit softball tournament, Home Runs for Haiti is scheduled for May 29 and 30 at the park and rec softball fields. Registration is open to 10 team at $15 per player. Contact Tim Goswick to register at 706-889-2982. Donations are also needed. Please contact Michelle Abercrombie at 706-889-1523 for more information.
Swimming deadline
The deadline for swim team registration is May 20. The fee is $25 per person. Football, cheerleading and fall soccer registration continues through June 26.
Pool opens Memorial Day
The Gilmer Recreation and Parks Dept. swimming pool will open for the summer May 25.
Elevate Soccer Evening Camp is scheduled for June 8 and 9 for ages 14-18 at the Gilmer County Soccer Complex. The cost is $35 which covers training and a camp t-shirt.

For mulitple campers from the same family a discount rate of $10 per child is available. Early registration $10 off if registered before May 25.

Winning matches for the boys were:

After three scoreless innings GHS opened up for four runs in the fourth and going into the seventh GHS led 5-3. But in the final inning the 'Cats broke out for seven runs and J. White closed the door on the Vikings in the bottom of the inning for the 12-3 win. White pitched seven innings skriking out seven and walking none.

Welch resigns as boys basketball coach
The Times-Courier learned Wednesday that boys varsity basketball head coach David Welch resigned from his coaching position.
Welch only coached one year at GHS and led a young Bobcat team to a 2-24 record. The Bobcats next head man will be the team’s third head coach in as many years. Renny Bryner led the Bobcats for five seasons prior to Welch’s arrival.

Versus White the JV let the game slip away in the final inning and came up short down two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The varsity played a good game against Fannin and the Rebels took the a comfortable lead after GHS went up 2-0 in the first. GHS fought back but the Rebels were able to add a couple insurance runs in the seventh to hold on.
